Overview

Restaurante Lao Tou stands as a beacon of authentic Chinese cuisine nestled in the heart of Usera, Madrid, a district renowned for its genuine Asian dining experiences. This unassuming spot at C. de Nicolas Sanchez, 35, offers a culinary journey far removed from the typical Chinese restaurants found in the city, delivering flavors that resonate with mainland China’s rich food culture.

The menu here is a testament to traditional Chinese cooking, featuring standout dishes such as the Sopa de Cabeza de Merluza, a comforting hake head soup celebrated for its depth of flavor, and the Costilla de Cerdo Agridulce, an expertly balanced sweet and sour pork rib dish. Their fried noodles, whether Tallarines o Fideos Fritos con Tres Delicias, melt in the mouth, while the Gyozas de Pollo offer a juicy, steamed-to-perfection bite. Adventurous diners will appreciate more daring plates like the Lengua de Pato (duck tongue), Intestino de Cerdo Crujiente (crispy pork intestine), and Ensalada de Medusa, reflecting the diversity and regional depth of Chinese gastronomy.

What sets Restaurante Lao Tou apart is not just the authenticity of its dishes but the immersive experience it provides. The atmosphere is cozy and unpretentious, reminiscent of a local eatery tucked away from tourist paths, where the focus remains squarely on food quality and genuine flavors. Though some reviews mention that the cleanliness of the space, particularly the restrooms, could see improvement, the friendly staff and warm vibe create a welcoming environment ideal for food enthusiasts eager to explore China's culinary variety.

The restaurant’s appeal is broad, attracting both locals and adventurous visitors who want more than a sanitized, Westernized Chinese meal. Whether you’re craving spicy lamb, frog leg stew, or simple but perfected favorites like pork bacon with dried vegetables, Lao Tou’s menu invites you to taste with curiosity and an open palate. Its location in Usera, a hub for authentic Asian cuisine in Madrid, further makes it a go-to destination for those seeking a deep dive into real Chinese flavors without leaving Spain.

While alcohol isn't served on the premises, diners often bring their own beverages, adding to the relaxed, informal dining culture. Prices are reasonable, emphasizing quality and generosity over extravagance. In all, Restaurante Lao Tou is a must-visit for anyone serious about authentically made Chinese dishes, offering a unique taste of China’s culinary heritage within Madrid’s vibrant food scene.

Delicious food! I tried the spicy beef/frog leg stew, dumplings and some type of potato dish. I didn’t know the stew had frog legs until after I finished it! Haha but i really couldn’t tell the difference between the the meats. It was delicious and very spicy! If you want to try some good Chinese food, definitely check this place out! Oh- they don’t serve alcohol but I think you can bring your own.

Amazing. I've never had Chinese food like this. Get the sopa de cabeza de merluza, It was the shining star of the meal. You will see it on every other table in the restaurant too. The fried rice was incredibly light, we got it with mariscos and it was super tasty. And don't skip the veggies - the okra, OMG - I don't know what they do to it, but it is the perfect texture and tastes delicious. Highly recommended, worth the short trip to Usera.
